A WCIU alumnus, Gene Daniels (a pseudonym) recently had an article published in Christianity Today, and we applaud his scholarship and hard work! His article, the cover story for the January/February issue, looks to be controversial and definitely generate lots of discussion. His article, titled “Worshiping Jesus in the Mosque” can be read for free here.

He has also published two books through William Carey Library that you can view here and here.

This article is very interesting. It talks about how Jesus comes to different cultures and shows himself in different ways. This example of Isa multiplying the macaroni shows how Jesus is personal and comes to meet our needs right where we are. He is the God of all cultures and is in the mission business of blessing his people and showing up in every context.

This is a very good example of what I would call “localized,” not “contextualized” theology. The believer learns background and enough about Christian tradition and theology with which to intelligently engage, and then develops theology for his faith community that answers questions that his faith community asks. I think his ideas concerning syncretism are astute, and church leaders should examine whether most of our people go through, and sometimes remain in, the same process. Very good, and I hope this MBB brother is blessed by the Holy Spirit in his ministry.

I think the story of multiplying macaroni is one of the best representative ways of how Jesus has been revealing Himself in the eyes of human beings. Since the word had become the flesh, He has been sincerely working to reveal Himself everywhere, especially in Islamic areas so that all human beings cannot perish but get salvation.

I wonder if you can tell me why the author has to use a pseudonym and the person he interviews as well? Is the danger really as much as it is portrayed? Just wondering.

Hi Salaam, I see you have stopped in here and asked a question about pseudonyms. Here is the short answer. 1) Abu Jaz used a pseudonym because I suggested it. 2) I have used one for years because a) I write a fair amount, and b) I am involved in ministry in a number of Muslim countries and do not need my name associated with certain writings. No one is trying to portray “danger” its just a practical matter. Why are you always so suspicious?
